Ober Test
Position the patient sideling on the table, with their back towards you, as close to the edge as possible. Placing your body up against the patients, you will wrap your arm under the patient’s upper leg, while stabilizing the trunk with the other hand. You will then abduct the patient’s leg to 30o, extend the hip 30o and then lower the patient’s leg so it falls behind the one flat on the table. Ensure that you are stabilizing the trunk so the hips do not rotate while completing the motion. With a ruler, measure the distance from the medial side of the knee to the table. Record the distance in inches.

    The number of calories you burn per day depends upon how much lean muscle you have in your body, the more you have the more you burn, if you do a lot of cardiovascular activities you will burn alot of calories in addition to your your BMR but if you want to Increase your BMR do weight training, do both and an appropriate diet depending upon your don't overthink by listening to these unnecessary researches.

    Dr Pontzer speaks as an Anthropologist. If he wishes to expand his ideas regarding the human body, I would like to encourage him to study physiology, biochemistry and medicine in order to better understand the mechanisms. For instance, studying Egyptian Mummies has demonstrated that their health was not good. They to suffered from heart disease and Obesity. Their daily foods included bread. We have now become obsessed with trying to shed some of the excess fat that we have stored in our bodies as a result of eating carbohydrates and sugar frequently throughout the day, and which results in high insulin levels. High insulin prevents the body from accessing the stored fat. If we wish to shed the pounds, we must drastically reduce the amount of carbohydrates that we consume, and eat less often. It is only then that the insulin level will reduce and activate fat burning. Early hunter gatherers might have been unsuccessful in the hunt, so that fasting might also have been the norm. Although while the menfolk were away hunting, the womenfolk would scratch around for tubers and anything else that might provide a subsistence and avoid starvation. Fasting also activates Autophagy which can be likened to internal recycling and repair aswel as removal of non reusable material. It's a fantastic system, but most of us in the Western world are not making use of it at the present time. Low Carb and Intermittent Fasting is what is needed for preventing the Diseases of Civilisation !! There are however many people with 'vested interests' in maintaining the Status Quo....

    • @dou40006
      @dou40006 3 года назад

      The insulin factor is of 2nd order in the process of storing fat, this new omertà as carbs as the mother of all problems is flawed at its core, as for fasting and autophagy , today there is zero evidence that they have any benefits for humans. Maybe you should read his book before trying to arguee his research .

      You've just tried to dismiss multiple years of research (hes a biochemist) with bro science as its easier for you to believe. That was really dumb. Schoenfeld and Aragon wholeheartedly disagree with you. Do they not know physiology either?

    If your energy is constrained at 2500 cals for arguments sake . Then if you are active and carry on exercising at constraint level where does the energy come from. The laws of physics/thermodynamics must be obeyed as otherwise the activity could be a kind of perpetual motion.

    Why only look at walking/running and not look at people who strength train? Seems more relevant, as they say running is simply trading time for calories burned, but strength training and lifting heavy actually increases your metabolism for approximately two days following the exercise session. Also muscle mass is a dictator of baseline calories burned.

    • @ondrej1893
      @ondrej1893 5 лет назад

      Well, the EPOC would be probably again nullified by the rest of the week (in)activity. And the muscle gain achieveable naturally isn't all that significant in daily calorie expenditure. And again, maybe other organs will become more efficient as a compensatory mechanism? That said, the myokine signalling is probably key and I agree that diet plus resistance training combo is the best. Purely diet for ideal bodyfat percentage and the role of exercise is to add or preserve lean body mass while fat is lost, not fat loss.
